Remember my spiral quilting in gold thread earlier in the week?
Well for the past couple of weeks now I have been experimenting with my stitchery (is that a proper word?) and crochet!
I started off making a couple more of these crochet flowers - just for practice and wondered what I could do with them once I had finished.
I also received this book for my birthday at the beginning of the month and have been desperate to learn the skill of embroidery. OK this is doodle stitching, but I need to start somewhere and to learn the basics. Sooooo wanting to give it a go I started on a square of old sheeting and this is what became.
I did use a couple of designs from the book to get me started, but once I began to imagine I just stitched what came into my head...
...and felt birdie's - idea seen here.
A crochet balloon...
...and mushrooms - 'oh' I do love all mushroom'ee' things, it's stems from being born in the '70's!
I quilted spirals in the gaps as I needed to be creative when attaching the backing and this seems to have done the job. I feel the gold spirals look more in keeping with the quilt I've created rather than quilting in the normal straight line fashion which I did with Tabi's dolls pram quilt.
I have mixed feelings about this little project, I'm not too sure to be utterly chuffed or ashamed with my efforts, but it is a first try and I'm sure my grandmother wasn't perfect the first time she embroidered.
And it's just the right size for a dollies pram or cot which already I know Florrie adores as she has sat and watched and even guided me with a couple of her suggestions of what I could stitch these past couple of weeks.
The Fairy is Florence - her idea and I think a very good one! - Click on the picture for a close up.
Have a lovely weekend, hope it's warm and the sun shines for everyone!

it's adorable, I think I like the rain cloud the best
I'm in awe! What a tremendous project - a proper heirloom. I think you should be really proud of yourself. My embroidery remains half finsihed and untouched for a whole year.
Good for you.

Pretty stitchery (if it isn't a real word, I think it ought to be!). Especially liking all those French knots.
