Family Beena

With the last of the foraged blackberries Mr T made 'Family Beena' from the River Cottage Handbook No.2 - Preserves.

This book has come into it's own these past couple of months in our home with cordials, ketchup, jams and liqueurs all being made from this book to stock with preserves for the larder from all the home grown produce and foraging we have done.

I have to admit it was a very long winded process to make our own fruit squash (so to speak) and at one point a friend nearly fainted when she walked into our kitchen and thought we had a pigs head strung up and hung (a vivid imagination!!) plus not to mention the stained hands and our kitchen looking like a blood bath when he had finished!! But with the option of adding a slug of Brandy or four to the finished product it became a very appealing drink to the grown up kiddies too!!

Though on this particular photo shoot I did add lemonade to my glass - well I couldn't give you the impression that I'm permanently sozzled! Which made a very refreshing non alcoholic, daytime drink.

And the children drink it with just plain old water (still or sparkling) which is 'yum' as you can taste the fruit - a concentrated version of well know fruit squash.

Have a lovely mid week day - labels sewn, shoes bought, ironing done just new lunch boxes and a rucksack to go!!

First, I want your kitchen. What a lovely relaxing cuisine area you have to work in. No wonder you come up with such yummie goodies.

2nd, I bet you could dye some fun yarn with your blackberrie juice. The purplie-stridation would be fantastic.

Last, you made me hungry. Time to make a smoothie.

You've been busy!

Sounds a rather tempting idea, a good alternative to yet more jam.

Looks delicious! I remember having a huge blackberry hedge at the bottom of the garden on the IOW,
stained fingers, stained lips, stained T shirts...good times.x
