Last night was the perfect crisp autumnal November evening for Bonfire and Fireworks Night and as mentioned yesterday we had our own little family November the 5th ritual in the back garden.
Our evening started with a family sit down round the table with hot dogs, baked potatoes and garlic bread then out to the garden to light the bonfire - well campfire which did take three tries as the ground and wood were a bit damp and who cares if it was more smoke then fire, not I or the children!! And it did fill the air with a wonderful autumnal woody smoky smell...
...plus it was a fire (of sorts) which was adorned with a picture of Guy Fawkes stuck to a bit of wood made by our eldest for the ceremonial burning!
Then sparklers the children's favorite and if I'm honest mine too, but when I was little though of course! Okay maybe not so little if you know what I mean!!

Though we did have a pep talk from Florrie first on how to properly dispose of a sparkler when it has gone out 'don't you know, mummy!'
They must of had a discussion at school because our little four year old always seems to have some reason to give us all a good old lecture (more like an ear bashing) on the right and wrongs of things.
And when the last sparkler had died out we headed up to the top of the house to watch a smidgen of the firework display going on over the bay. The pictures are blurry as I'm still learning how to take pictures of fireworks - it's all to do with how long you leave the shutter open and how much light you let in or something or other!!
A bit too technical for me I'm afraid. I'm normally a hope for the best kind of camera user! I'd like to say photographer, but that would be way too grand to describe my picture taking.
Not the most traditional of Bonfire Nights, but good fun was had and hopefully memory making all the same.
Have a lovely end of the week and a wonderful, wonderful autumnal crisp and cosy weekend. xox

Lovely - thanks for sharing with us. I well remember the lectures we had from our daughter when "Mrs Robinson says..." was always the beginning and which we forbade to say "Well that's exactly what we said earlier"!!! All many years ago now.

Hi Nina, looks like you all had a fabulous time, and it doesn't matter about fireworks. What you are doing is keeping a family tradition going..putting another collection of memories in the box, ready for a time in the future someday when they will be remembered and treasured and passed on to another generation. Wonderful. Dev x
Oh they are lovely pictures Nina. I forgot my camera when we went around to friends for our display typically. Gorgeous evening here too. Love the pep talk! x
Awww...sounds like it all went well then! We got to see some fireworks over Clapham Common and then we made a mad dash for food in a restaurant before the hords descended...it was quite a fun night. I discovered though that one friend has never had a sparkler - ever! This must be rectified soon!!! xxx
I love the photo of Florrie with her sparkler! Such a cherished memory for the children. Hardly any fireworks here last night but we're off to an organised display on Saturday at Ickworth.

This looks like such a wonderful time. Children and sparklers creates such magic. Have a very happy weekend
There is something so memory evoking about the smell of bonfires, isn't there? Tomato soup in mugs also brings back a flood of childhood Bonfire Night remembrances, x
Now they are what I call proper sparkler pictures - fabulous! What a lovely family party.
Cosyiness is definitley the order of the day around here, but I do feel like I want to slow things all down to enjoy every drop of these lovely autumn days.
Have a lovely weekend.
