Easter 'Chinchilla' Bunny Tutorial

At last I've done it, so sorry for the delay!!

Okay, so this is what 'I' did to make my little 'chinchilla' bunny as the older two have nick named the green spotty one.

Please can I apologies in advance if my instructions seem all 'gobbledegook' giving direction is not one of my stronger points. This is also only a guide on how I made one and if you have a better or easier way or idea on how to do it then please feel free, my sewing skills probably seem all back to front to anyone that is trained.

Firstly I drew an 'arch' template on some plain paper for the body. Then on a folded piece of paper drew the outline of half an ear and cut this out so when unfolded I had a whole ear.

When you are happy with your design and sizing 'cut out' or use mine as a template.

{Template of ear and body}

You will need four ears and two body parts and either cut them out of the same material or mix and match like I have.

Cut out two body parts...

...and four ears.

Pin 'right sides' together two of the cut out ears, you can pinch and tack one side or both if you are happy and confident to do that, it doesn't matter if you don't it just adds a bit of detail.

{Right sides together}

{Pinch and pin 'or' tack}

Now stitch the round the ears leaving the bottom unstitched in able to turn them out and remember that the 'right sides' should be together. Turn out the right way, they should look like this ::

I still have my pins in the ears for a 'pinched' look.

I've added some embroidery floss in a running stitch around the outside to hold the pleats in place and to enhance the ears, but you don't have to do this be as individual as you choose. My bottom stitches will be hidden when I attach the ears to the body.

To attach the ears to the body place them on one of the cut out body pieces facing down and pin in place. This will make sense when it comes to turning the body out after stitching.

Place the other cut out body piece on top and pin remembering 'right sides' should always be together, don't worry about the ears I promise it will all make sense.

Stitch round three sides leaving the bottom unstitched for stuffing and embellishments.

Now turn out or 'bag out' your bunny, it should look something like this ::

See the ears should now be attached and pointing up and outwards - I hope!!

Now this is where I decorate my bunny. I do it at this stage purely because it means I can make sure everything is in line and centered with no off set eyes or nose or whiskers etc... if you catch my drift??

You can do all this before you sew the body up, but for me I feel it just makes it more bulky to manoeuvre when sewing all pieces together, though it does make it awkward to bring it all together by leaving it to this point.

Anyway, I cut out a rectangle and folded it in half and hand stitched onto the front for an apron 'or' bib.

Then buttons for eyes and free style whiskers and nose, but you can do any design you like.

Another button for a tail, but again it could be a pom pom or a little ball of some kind maybe even a bell?

Then when you are happy with the look of your bunny, stuff her 'or' him with whatever you have to hand, I used fibre filling. Sew up the bottom and hey presto a bunny!!

And failing that you can always cheat and find your local 'GreenGate' stockist and buy one of these fellow's like I did when we went down to Haslemere (Surrey) in my absolute all time favorite shop 'HollyPark'

They have little pockets at the front to pop a tiny chocolate egg in, how cool is that??

Though I hope you'll have more fun making!!

Anyone for a chocolate egg?

A Wonderful Weekend and...

...a spot of the colly wobbles!!

What a weekend, a ninth birthday and a front room of sleeping bags and boys all over excited on chocolate and chips (and homemade ketchup!) with thoughts of the morning and the awaited adventure.

It wasn't too bad, but my usual 10.30 bedtime became more like midnight and then some!! Sleepovers, a lovely idea, but if you like your sleep ( I do) maybe not so good.

Sunday morning and off to the the local indoor climbing wall and I have to say William did an amazing job. He had to climb to at least the height of a house then abseil down again. When he got to the bottom he said ' his legs were shaking like a doggies tail' I laughed so much when they told me, but I have to confess that watching the video back later even gave me the 'colly wobbles' and bless him up he went again only this time he had to step out onto a platform the width of a very thin plank of wood, but he did it again and out of all five only three of them found there courage (Will and the girls - typical).

Whilst Will's was off climbing Florence and I managed to cobble together an Easter Bonnet, my memory was nudge on Friday by her preschool teacher that it 'needed' to be in for Monday - whoops!

I had grand ideas of a card crown covered in Easter offerings, but when we got to the shop and saw plain straw hats for sale we picked one up and Florence stuck sequin flowers and pom pom's over it, I just did some sewing to enhance it.

Not bad though I think and it's turned out well. Not a master piece I'm afraid like some of the other children's, but then which one of those children actually made there hats themselves! (sorry I'm only jealous)

In the garden for the afternoon, it needed a jolly good tidy up. The signs of Autumn are still very slighty there the odd seed head here and old dried up plant there.

The sky was a beautiful cloudless almost violet blue...

...new flowers have appeared and our cherry tree is almost ready to blossom.

There was lots to do, but I still found time to sit down with some tea (and a cake) to enjoy the sun.

When the afternoon died down and it turned chilly with the absence of the sun we all plodded indoors for dinner and the usual Sunday evening routine, bath, Little Bear on the TV and bed. Glass of wine for mum and dad then the ironing for the forthcoming week!

:: The 'blossom' view from our back bedroom ::

Hope you had a lovely one?

ps. the weather man said this morning it's going to be sunny all week 'and' warming up by the weekend - fingers crossed and toes and legs and everything else!

Happy Birthday Little Man

'But Mummmmm, I'm nine now'!!! - Sorry sweetie, but you'll always be my little man, right??

Today is Will's 9th Birthday, yippee nine whole years, blimey I feel old!!

This week marks three birthdays of our little family of five. Starting with Will's and ending in mine, hubby's in the middle now how can we forget each others (husband and wife) a day apart how convenient is that? What a roller coaster of parties this forthcoming week will see!! Though as long as I get a lie in and am pampered all day, sod the party I'll have the lie in any day.

Can you remember being nine?? I'm not too sure I can, but then if my mum told me that Duran Duran were in the charts that year (weren't they always in the 80's?) then that would probably jog a memory or two, but my ninth birthday I'm sure it was special though as the years go by they all seem to merge into one.

Apart from my thirteenth and eighteenth and 'oh' then there was my twenty first - last year was pretty special, but only from a memory perspective, with a new baby and the blues I was spoilt and pampered by family and friends.

Anyway, back to my boy 'oh' yes nine today. He was up at 5 'yes' 5am this morning, good job we had stuck this to our bedroom door...

...we are such evil parents, but Saturday 'come on'. The children don't get up that early on Christmas morning, but then that might have something to do with the party we throw every Christmas Eve (that's another story along with the seventies party we had last October, sorry I've got distracted - again) I did get up at 6.15am and then the rest of the family about half an hour later.

Presents galore were ripped open in the good old fashioned way, none of this gentle pull the tape off and carefully unwrap!

We've now lit the cake and have all had a slice each for lunch. Tonight a 'boys' night in and a sleepover, then tomorrow off he'll go with some of his mates bouldering and abseiling (a birthday treat).

William your parents are amazing, do you think they will adopt me??

Have a lovely Saturday, it's raining here - again!!
