Well I've finally done it - I've finally dipped into my stash of yarn!!
Though what a quandary to begin with.
I've always wanted to make a crochet blanket and a granny (pardon the term) one at that.
But................what to choose? 'granny squares' or (Attic24's) summer garden 'granny squares' - I have a bit of a fancying for both you see. Mmmmmmm........?? - decisions, decisions.
Or maybe even a bit of both?? You know mix it up a bit - if that's possible?? But after having a little practice run I wasn't happy with either.

The colours didn't feel (or look) great together - they just did not sit right. So again 'what to do, what to do?? '
Then I had a thought one evening - as you do.
How about a 'Summer garden granny square' blanket (phew that is a mouthful!) but............with a twist!!
Why can I never seem to stick with the plan?!
Anyhow, my thought was....what if I started a summer garden granny square, but instead of tying off after four rounds I just kept on going?
Mmmmmm.....it could work - maybe? OK, so not a mish mash of yarny colour I envisaged, but my crocheting skills are pretty limited and this would mean I could stay within my comfort zone - just until I gained some more crochety confidence.
So that's exactly what I've done!!
And I'm absolutely chuffed with the result. What do you think??
For me the colours just feel right now and I'm thoroughly enjoy the therapeutic process of just going around and around and around.......!
Plus, now I've got started and have my head around the pattern I can pick this up as and when I can which on a good day can be ten times and then some......and on a bad day, well let's just say I've lost count!!
I hope you're having a relaxing'ish' half term week? All the snow is pretty much gone now apart from little corners tucked away against hedgerows and fields. Though lookie what I spied in the garden at the weekend!
Not even the snow can stop Spring.
Have a fabulous week.

Beautiful blanket you are working on! And some hope for spring as well, we are still pretty much snowed in here and I'm dreaming of spring...

made one rather like that and it works well. Less sewing up to do afterwards as well - always a plus. Well done and it will look fabulous when finished I am sure.
We have loads of daffodils in bloom along the roadsides here which is very heartening.

What gorgheous colours Nina. Looks beautiful and I am so envious because I'd love to crochet but I just can't make it click!
Looking forward to seeing more of it soon.

Well done! I love the colour choices with your blanket, just beautiful. My first granny blanket ended up being just one great big giant granny as I enjoyed going round and round so much!
Have a lovely week.
Love the blanket wish I'd had this thought before I started my crochet blanket - too many ends to sew in! Love it!

Loving the snowy beach photo's... I don't think I've ever seen snow on the beaches, certainly not over here, but never in the UK either. Maybe next year you'll all be ice skating on the Thames...food for thought! x
Glad you finally had a chance to dip into the stash. I know what you mean about making that final decision of which pattern to go for. Too much choice I guess.

Lovely colours you are using in the granny square summer garden blanket there! I am making a ripple blanket at the moment but next I really want to make a massive granny square blanket for the sofa - though I have a feeling this could take a lonnnnng time!
Love that springy photo at the end...not long now!

The colour combination looks great Nina. I much prefer to make crochet blankets that way. I still have a pile of squares to sew up into a blanket! Whereas I've made two the way you're doing it now.
Yay looks brilliant!! I'm so jealous!! Am going to be starting out on the granny blanket trail soon myself and am looking for inspiration/ideas to nick. I think you might be on to something here!
Love those colours together too. Can't wait to see the finished article!
Hi Nina am loving the blanket. Are you going to keep going round and round and round or are you just making the squares much larger and then sewing them together? Have changed my mind about my current square blanky too. Will post about it soon. Dev x
Beautiful choice of colours. It looks very promising. Having a busy half term here. Hope you're enjoying yours. Anna x
The colours look fabulous. xxx
It's about time you dipped into that stash. I actually love all the colors together. They sort of remind me of a wine vineyard at harvest time. Stick with it. You never know how it will all turn out.

Awww, sweet Nina! Can you believe the two of us? Both novice crocheters and look, we are actually doing granny squares!!! It took me forever to finally do mine. I tried over and over and over! Yours are quite pretty and I love the colors you put together!
