Shallow fried dandelion flower heads - 'uh huh!'
For something that feels 'oh so' wrong in soooooo many different ways, actually tastes 'oh so' right and very, very yummy (I must say) in a whole new experience kind of way.
These were picked from the allotment so no chance of them being peed on by dogs. Though I did make Mr T try the first one in fear that I would be poisoned.
And with childhood thoughts running through my head of bed wetting and 'you must never pick (yes mum) dandelions' I did tentatively take the tiniest of nibbles at first.
But 'oh my word' how yummy are these?
You'll have to take my word for it if you've never tried and of course if you're not too worried about fried food and cholesterol that is.
And by my second flower head I was scoffing a whole bowl full with the best of them - with no bed wetting tales to tell of - must be a gardeners fable.
I hope you're enjoying your sun shine weekend?
We had sea mist here yesterday (when warm air meets cold) and have avoided the beach today opting to go down maybe this evening as is absolutely heaving down there at the moment.....plus the garden is much, much warmer and convenient.....with ice cold fizz on tap!
Have a good one
xXx
Edited :: the taste is hard to describe. I thought they were quite sweet with a wilted spinach kind of after taste. We found a basic batter mix, anyone will do but you could make a beer one or even sweet one to enhance the natural sweetness. We thought a tempura (Japanese) batter would be a good one to try as well.
We saw the idea from Alys Fowlers 'The Edible Garden' (my new domestic goddess!) and were intrigued to see what they tasted like.....though the recipe is not in her book. Hope that all helps? N xx

...but what do they taste like???
I'm going to have to try some
I love the fact that Mr T was acting like the king's taster, or something.
Always a wise decision to get the man to taste first, that's just what I do too, hee hee!
I must say I've been meaning to do that too and really should have done so last weekend when there were a frightening number on the lawn. So if you're still around in a few days (if you know what I mean) I'll get the batter on the go!!!
Very hot here!

Wow- I must have a go at these! I've never heard of anything to do with dandelions and bedwetting?!

Must give these a go - after all courgette flowers have been a delicacy for yonks so why not the good old dandelion? You could always serve a salad including the dandelion leaves with it!
I think you are wise to give the beach a miss this afternoon I'm sure all the world and his dog will be there and how much more pleasant to go when they've all gone home!

I would totally try some of those!
and.... did you wet the bed after? lol... those words are stuck in my head too from childhood days!
Not sure on these - I guess the childhood bedwetting comments stick firmly in my mind.
Shame really - we've loads of dandelions in the garden this summer.
Not sure about that..but I'll take your word that they're nice!
My sister's dog eats the daisy heads...it's so funny watching her 'hoover' them up!
Bellaboo :0)
Hmmm, not sure if I would try these or not - I sure have a good crop of them though!
We have loads of dandelions constantly sprouting in the garden, and I keep thining to myself 'what a pity to let them go to waste', but I must admit, I was a little afraid of eating them, perhaps now that you have and have said they are quite yummy, I think I may try them? :) xxx
what a brave girl!!!!
I think this most definitely will be filed under "You learn something new every day"
Poor Mr T being set up as fall guy. I've a friend whose daughter likes foraging and cooked them a foraged meal of nettle soup and tempura flowers. Still not convinced as yet. Wish I could taste some of your bowful Nina, with a glass of wine and a bit of chat.
After our little bit of summer, the skies are darkening here for rain and it's meant to go back to 12 by Wednesday. Bye bye legs and dresses again I guess.

ha ha you make me chuckle i too have always wanted to try these but never been brave enought to do it. what did you fry them in? I may have to rope ash in to taste test i like that idea ha ha! have a great day xx
They look delicious - where did you find the recipe? Or did you make it up? I'm off to google :D
I really need to make these. I have seen them around the blog community over the past few weeks, but I have been too afraid of the pesticides if I gathered them up from around the farms in our area. Still though, you just made them look so darn pretty
Serendipitous! I have been reading about wild edibles, particularly in the area in which I live. I JUST read the section in a book title "Greens I Can No Longer Force Myself to Eat" (or something like that). It made me laugh. Do you have a recipe to share for these? We have dandelion everywhere around here right now!
Thanks, Nicola
I was going to have a go at this…but never got around to doing it.
