I nearly called this post 'Halfway House' as that is precisely where I am with my rippling blanket - halfway through.
It also reminded me of - the 'not to be' heading not the blanket that is - of an Only Fools and Horses episode where they take a day trip to Margate and stop at the 'halfway house' which is actually a pub (now closed down) called the Roman Galley on the A299 - on the way to, well Margate. Which coincidentally isn't a million miles away from where we live so in theory it also means something, well three things if you're counting - to me that is.
Also it is one of my all time favourite episodes - long before we moved here. That and the chandelier one 'oh' and not forgetting Batman and Robin!!!!!
But if you're not familiar with most of the above then it would make no sense at all plus considering there are just two things in my photos - well three really......roses a ripple and my crochet hook that is!
The roses are from our garden by the way and I think Mr T took a cutting from our old house and transplanted them here.
Anyhow, they smell of the sweetest sherbet in a musky kind of way and 'oh' how I do love these roses. These were the last ones to be picked though (fingers crossed) hopefully they will bloom again later in the year.
Hope you're still following?? Sorry for the sideways (verbal) step, roses and all.
As you can see I am now halfway through my ripple - uh huh, we got that bit - sorry.
Well anyway when I say halfway through it is in a rippling sense of the matter because........when doing my foundation row I didn't actually make it all that long - wanting to try again *big sigh* and fathom out the whole gist of the doings of the cursable mystery of rippling soooooooo it's kind of started to become a long skinny thing of a blanket which is why I have decided to put the breaks on and stop scratch my head and work out how I can start to make it bigger?
So here it is :: do I make several more lovely long rippling skinny things and then sew them all together to make one great big blanket 'orrrrrrrr' do I start to go around and around the outside edge in 'maybe' more ripple - now that would look interesting in a totalistic ripple on the inside and edged in more ripples kind of way?
Mmmmmmmm that could be a whole new twist on a ripple and is certainly worth thinking about 'orrrrrrrr' do I just go around the outside edge in a normal 'how's you're father' kind of normalish double crochet way?? Straight and wavy.
The possibilities 'wow' I think I've even outdone myself with that thought process - phew!!
Unless of course you can think of some other superlicious way of expanding my long and skinny ripple blanket into something of great width, warmth and voluptuousness??
Answers on a postcard please to............!
Only joking though all suggestions would be gratefully accepted and considered in achieving my rippling goal.
Well that's me done - I'm all rippled out. Thanks for listening and in advance........you're wonderful comments and suggestions.
Not being too presumptuous that is - I hope not 'gosh' that would be ever so rude of me, sorry.
As always - much love

God you're right the possibilities are limitless really aren't they, as long as you have the imagination to come up with them. I like the idea of the rippling around the edges but might that be too much rippling? If you do the somewhat more boring DC or TR around the edges it's not as exciting but might show of your gorgeous rippleness (and it is. I'm crazy jealous over here) to its best effect.
What do I know? I can't even ripple :(
No matter how many times I see the repeat of that chandelier one it still make me cry laughing!
I'm going to have to progress to rippling,it looks so lovely!
Bellaboo :0)
Your blanket is so clever- well done! x
Nina...your yellow roses and sweet ripple blankie look beautifully perfect together!
Mmmm now there's a question!! Not sure about rippling around the edge myself, I think that might be a bit much! How about making more strips like you said and crocheting them together and make a feature of the crocheted ridge?
Just loved 'Only Fools and Horses'!
Beautiful roses by the way. :)
Vivienne x
How about you do Tif's (dottie angel..) blanket, but in ripple. She has a great toot-toot on how to join blocks, so maybe you could do the same but in ripple, maybe putting the colours in a different order.
Looks fantastic whatever!!
p.s. I can just imagine our friend L saying that you should just give it to his darling F, because it's just about her size!!! (I'm sure she would forgive me for saying that..right after she'd boxed my ears!!! ;-))
Hi Nina! It's nice to see you again. I want to learn to ripple. I'm a bad direction follower. I should try again.
I love your blog by the sea.
my favourite is the one where del and trigger pretend to be yuppies and del fals through the bar...and the one where uncle albert claims he speaks german, hehehehehehehe. pardonnez moi, must just add, nice blanket, x
I do so love the colours Nina. Just the prettiest blend, though my heart skips a beat at the thought of all those ends to work in - just the lazy side of me yet again. Think you may be right about our girls staying firmly in front of the lens by the way! x
Hi Nina, I think that I would be inclined to do more panels until it is the size you want and then join them altogether. You can always do a border as well. I think it finishes the edge off nicely if you do. It looks lovely by the way. Dev x
I loved only fools,,, that ripple blanket is coming along a treat:) Catherine x
How do you sew bits together? I'm always intrigued by that... I quite like the second idea - might be interesting to see that?! xxx
Your ripple looks gorgeous! I'm a newbie at crocheting but a think something straight around the ripple would highlight the waves.
Take Care!
How about folding it in half and making a bag to carry your next ripple project in! I always believe that it is impossible to have too many bags and it would be a perfect way to take it out and about for lots and lots of admiring looks! :D
I'm going to have to give this ripple business another go! Yours is fab and i love your roses x
How about keeping going till it's twice as long as it is wide then folding it over and making a cushion cover? Then starting again on a wider blanket...
