Balancing

Half term is like Marmite - either you love it or hate it.

Not getting up at stupid o'clock to make lunches, jostle little ones out of their slumber, politely encouraging them to get up for the umpteenth time 'get dressed, have breakfast and maybe (possibly) even have a wash or at least brush your teeth and hair - plllllllllease'

Rush, rush, rush.

The phrase 'old fishwife' and 'mum sounds like one' springs to mind on a school term weekday!

Nag, nag, nag.

Though come 9.15 when all are where they are suppose to be, you are left with six pure hours of stillness. Home to a peaceful house full of nothing, but quiet and mooching. Ahhhhhhhh - I do like to mooch.

Silence, calm and tranquility.

Though the knock on effect - due to my early start - is that I'm always cream crackered come 10.30.

But.................!

In half term you can get up when you like and stay in your jim jam's until way past lunch, maybe not even getting dressed at all. Though a wash at some point would be a good thing, just to avoid wrinkled noses.

We can play and potter or maybe just do nothing, slobbing around all day if the fancy takes us.

Though the downside of that is you could be faced with a house full of little ones all fueled up and bored! Mum, mum, mumming - I'm hungry, what can I do, can I call so and so to come round and play, mum, mum, muuuuuuum.............I'm soooooooo bored!

Struggling to find something to do that will entertain your little ones - desperately arranging play dates.

Hey, ho you can't have it all.

Did I mention the not getting up and slobbing around in your jim jam's till noon?

I have to admit to preferring the latter, just the good bits mind you like no early rises, not getting dressed, not nagging - most important - slobbing if we wish and most definitely, absolutely no fishwives.

My guys are not too bad, we/they always find something to do.

They have their fights and little tit for tats like most siblings - tale telling I simple cannot abide - but normally they play OK'ish' and find things to amuse themselves.

Plus failing all that I could always suggest - like my mother before me - that maybe they would like to go clean their rooms 'or' help mum do something equally boring like.......polish the brass! Like I have any (tut) but it works every time.

It's amazing - when given the choice - how quickly a 'I'm bored' turns into a disappearing act with non resurface until hunger hits in.

So here's to slobbing - and balancing - with my little ones this half term. Please don't fly by too quickly.

Have a wonderful day and an adventurous week.

Which one do you prefer? Term or half term.

xXx

ps. If you're wondering about my 'weird' choice in pictures today wellllll, I opened my new bars of shampoo and conditioner this morning and just loved the colour combination so decided to have a little play with other colours I love. Makes all complete and utter sense really. N xxx

I love the pictures1 Sea glass is so pretty.
My little ones are too small for half term, we have all those delights to come. We do often stay in PJs until noon, though. Laurax

Well my term/half term days are past sadly and I mean sadly, they grow up way too quickly. So enjoy them!
Love your sea glass. :)

Nice photos, i love collecting sea glass and have a whole jar full. No children means no half term in our house, but I'm all for staying in pj's till noon (or all day!)

I am in the love half-term camp but I have trained myself to think that way a little bit. A bit longer in bed and no rushing out of the house in the morning makes up for a lot in my opinion.

Hi Nina. Of I know where you are coming from! I love the fact that term times mean the whole day is ahead because we are all out the door so early, but I also loathe the nagging. Hols mean less nagging but no action till late int he day which drives me bats! No winning I guess. Gorgeous pictures xx

Well, like all I think, I love not having to get up and out the house so early. Lazy mornings are ace.......but the bickering starts early and the mess...oh my...the mess. It's only monday and it's driving me crazy! I spent all morning clearing up after the weekend, and looked just, and looks like I havn't even bothered! I can cope with half terms though, the summer hols are the worst! 6 weeks of total mess, completely does ones head in!!!! ha ha!

Happy chilled out monday! xxx

I'm definately for the hol's and always count the days to the next one, although running a business and doing stuff with the boys' can prove tricky, but time is saved not doing packed lunches and the dreaded school run!
Enjoy the week!

Half term - what's that? The only way I know it's half term these days is because there's no yoga class this morning!!

Enjoy your littlies whilst you can all too soon they will be gone and like mine perhaps travelling on the other side of the world!

I do love half term although when they start to argue I wish school was open again or that I had a lovely silent room to hide in :-) Enjoy your week. x

The sea glass is stunning! I definitely prefer half-term but then I'm cheating really as I'm a teacher and I don't have any children... yet... so I'm not sure my vote counts ;) Enjoy your week and I hope the little ones find plenty of things to do.

Term for me every time! But then I don't need to nag mine, or make packed lunches as they do that themselves. Come September I won't even need to take any of them to school.

I like the lie-ins half term afford though, but I miss having the house to myself. And the quiet, I miss the quiet. Today younger son has been hosting band practice- well he has to seeing as he's got the least portable instrument, the drums.

As a teacher I must say I rather prefer half-term!!!
My two are all grown up now so it's very peaceful in our house ... but I used to love having time with my own children instead of spending my days with other people's. Enjoy your half term!

Love the marmite analogy - so true! I can't bear marmite but especially love half term (spring break here) as it's time off from work for me too. Now my two are at school I love the chance to spend extra time with them and a break from the daily stress of getting them up and out the door every morning. Hope you have great weather for it!

After a tough run at work recentley, where I have seen little of the smalls, I am looking forward to half term.

I am aiming to take things steady, a few play dates/coffee chats arranged. But not hareing around like a woman posessed...

Of course my peacekeeping skills will be put to the test, which is why I have baked srcummy biscuits & stocked up on chocolate rations...

Loved the photo's

Have fun

Holidays... but then I'm a lazy moo! I can't abide tell tales either. The boys are under strict instructions not to start wailing unless there's blood.
Mother of the Year award... I think not?! x

Half term - love it! (Though the silence in the house on the first day back can be pretty good too).

Hi Nina, sadly as a working Mum I have to juggle a bit especially as I am really low on leave at the moment and need to save some for the Easter hols as well. Will have one day off this week and the rest of the time Littlest Fairy is with her Pa and friends. Not how I would like it to be, but just how it is at the moment. Enjoy it because you can! Dev x

hanging in the house in jim jams always feels leisurely. I'm still in mine but as I sleep in tracksuit bottoms then I guess I could pass for a knackered old sporty type if I had to answer the door to anyone!

Hi, I prefer half term because I am a Teaching Assistant and half term means a well earned week off for me! I love your blog, Mandy x

Hi there - it's nearly over! Found your lovely blog via various others, can't quite remember the route I took! But thought I'd add my vote to the poll. And ... actually I sit on the fence a bit. This one has been good, others have been dire. This time I embraced the chaos. Big clean up planned for Monday though!
