Poxy Chicken

Since Sunday we've had a very up and down unwell little girl.

One minute she was burning up and shivering all at the very same time. Complaining that her throat hurt and ear ached. Unsettled and crying continuously - nothing would soothe her. Well until the recommended dose of paracetamol kicked in.

The next she would be dancing around, laughing like a trooper and generally being back to her normal cheeky little monkey self.

And as for sleeping - I wish!

Don't they just worry the hell out of you sometimes?!

Then late last night I found the tiniest blistered spot on her head. I discounted it because of the fact it was so small and so clear you could barely see it. She slept like a log last night....and so did I! Hurray - all is well.

Fast forward to this morning. The blistered spot was gone and my little boo was all jolly again - no ear ache, no sore throat and most definitely no temperature. What ever it was had worked it's way out of her body. Phew.

Until..........I got her dressed.

Tummy - fine. Face - fine. Arms and legs - fine. Back of the ears - fine.

Let's just quickly take a look at your back - what's that? And that? And that, that, that and that!

Six spots all blistered and a little bit (by a lot) bigger then the one I found on her head which as I looked closer realised she had scratched and was now not so little and not so clear, but a red and angry knocked blistered spot.

We have the Pox. Chicken Pox that is.

Well, the littlest Boo has Chicken Pox.

So that's what all the ear, throat, restless sleep and temperature was all about. It all makes sense now.

And do you know what? I am so relieved. Not because she has come through the worst of it and it's just the spots now - though the good nights sleep was most welcome last night and we do have to keep her incubated (so to speak) until the last spot has popped! No I'm relieved because I feel like I have been waiting such a long time for her to get it.

All her other little buddies have had it - ages ago. I was kind of feeling a little left out.

What ever happened to having a Chicken Pox party?

Anyhow, today we've had a play day....so far. I'm hoping she'll settle with a DVD later and have a snooze. There's no harm in hoping is there?

Well best get back to it - another puzzle to make, another sticker to be stuck. Yay for Chicken Pox.

Have a lovely day yourself - Chicken Pox.........anyone?

xXx

Oh poor littlest Boo. My eight year old has missed Chicken Pox, we tried really hard to catch it but it has alluded her so far. She is making up for it viral wise this week though.

What a shame, but at least a 'good' one to get out of the way! 1 of mine had virtually the same symptons as your little Boo and I, like you was relieved when the spots came out and I discovered it was chicken pox! Get well soon.

Awww, worst is over now though, just lots of calomine lotion!!
I never caught chicken pox, not even when my son had them when he was little. My mother never had them either and my daughter never caught them, even in primary school when the whole class came down with them!

Yes, it is far better to get chicken pox when you're a child. I remember those chicken pox parties as I grew up and I think that I was sent to every one but never got the chicken pox until that it when I was 40! Boy, did they make up for it - I had spots on spots. The doctor siad cheer up you won't get them on the palms of your hands or the soles of your feet and then I showed him my palms and the soles of my feet and he just said - well, well .. I could have throttled him! Hope your daughter is better soon.
P.S. I have added you to my blog list.

Hope she feels better soon, nasty pox! My children have escaped it so far and it appears that most children here in Quebec (except mine) are vaccinated against it.

you can pass it this way, i've been waiting for my little O to get it, but no luck so far, would like to get it out the way before she's at school!
(we found that a sockful of oats in the bath & the calamine cream - not lotion worked a treat for the itchies when her brother had it!)

Aaah I can see how you feel - my Mum went through this with me, waiting and waiting for me to get chicken pox when everyone around me went down with it.

I'll be 28 on Monday and still haven't had it.....

Better not get it now!

Hope she gets better soon.

Oh, poor little sausage :o(
I found that 2 or 3 drops of oil of peppermint in a bath of nicely warm water very soothing for myself (yes, I'd got it on my 30th birthday!) and my small (aged 5 at the time) daughter. Hope this helps.

I didn't get chicken pox until I was 15. What an age to get it! Like you are not self conscious enough! It was awful actually, so I was VERY relieved when the bears got it. Although the eldest bears came down with it just when I was going off with Mr H for our 10 year wedding Anniversary. Unfortunately Grandma who was to have them hadn't ever had it, so we had to cancel. Darn kids! Baby bear got his a couple of years ago so all over and done with. At least it has come now for littlest Boo. Hope they arn't too itchy!

When my eldest got the pox, I was about to murder him, so irritable he had been for the 3 days previous. And oh the maternal guilt, when it became clear why.
Once the spots appear, the worst is over. Hope you get some good playing sessions in.

No varicella vaccine in England?

Poor little thing - my daughter got Chicken Pox before the vaccine was available and had a terrible time.

I hope your daughter feels better soon! Calamine lotion and oatmeal baths help the itching...

BTW, I did a shout out to you on my blog!

Argh, hope she is feeling better soon. Best to get chicken pox as young as possible - the older you are when you get it, the worse the symptoms are. Enjoy the cuddles! x

Hope she feels better soon, yes, so much better to get chicken pox whilst you are young.

Oooohh, yes, but I think one of those things it is best to have as a child rather than teenager/adult. Thankfully mine have both had it. I do love a charlie and lola magazine - hours of fun! Hope little Boo feels better soon.

Poor baby, hope she feels better soon. Not sure if Littlest Fairy has had it yet. She did get a rash a few years ago and I thought it may be chicken pox, but I have never really been sure. Had shingles myself a couple of years ago, in my eyes and forehead of all places. Looked like something from Dr Frankenstein! dev x

Oh no! Poor little Boo, GET WELL SOON! My little pony seems, Charlie and Lola and spot of puzzling seem an excellent prescription to me.
Hope you manage a cat nap too Nina!

Oh, I hope little Boo gets well very soon! Chicken pox can be a bit annoying but eventually it will go away. My girls had it two years ago , they liked to have lukewarm showers against all the itching...
