Chilli Peppers

All grown in the greenhouse this year.

The man of the house has a passion for chillies - I'm not all that keen as you may know from previous postings - but who am I to squash his fondness of these fiery little things.

Our greenhouse seems to be bursting at the moment with all sorts of different chilli plants and these are the first to be picked of the year (I think) - all destined for pickling.

The eldest Boo is the only other family member who has a liking for these hot and tongue tingling fruits - or could that be vegetable? - and is it a male thing? To have a liking for heat that is.

Apart from pickling and chilli jam they freeze really well so the guys have chillies all year round........great!

We did have a run down on the name of each one, but for the life of me I can't remember now.

I think one of them is a jalapeno and the only other name I can remember for a chilli is a scotch bonnet, but I don't think we have any of those. I could be wrong though.

I do have to admit to liking the look of them. They do look very tempting...........and deceptive. Experience has taught me well though.

The colours may make your eyes 'pop' but as for eating - phew - no thanks.

No, I think I will leave these little delectable home grown 'blow the roof of your mouth off' produce to the menfolk of the house.

Have a fabulous week.

xXx

ps. thank you for all your lovely and understanding messages yesterday. It really was a tough one to put down in words and I'm so glad it made sense. Thank you again - Nina x

Oh dear, Me Davey will be sooo jealous Nina! he manages about one chilli per year in our garden as the greenhouse is now defunct! They look so pretty don't they? I love to eat them, though not too hot. x

There were some lovely and unusual recipes using chillis in the Mail on Sunday YOU magazine yesterday x

Chillis are quite easy to grow aren't they? I find them a useful addition to sauces, soups and stews but would have trouble eating pickled ones. They are pretty to look at too.

I'm with you when it comes to chilli, lovely to look at but too hot for me, and I usually manage to rub my eyes when I am using them! Not to be tried if you value your sanity!

I agree with you too...chillis are lovely to look at but not to eat! I also thought your last post was very well put, Nina. Your blog is always a pleasure both to see and to read (I love your sense of humour as well as your photography).
Have a lovely week. Helen x

I love a fiery curry (Thai green curry with lots of zip is my favourite) so not sure I could do without chillis. I've taken to cutting them while holding the stalk because if I get them anywhere near my fingers they always get under my nails - ouch!

I love chillis - love the heat they add to food.

You could use some of them and make chilli oil - would make a good pressie :)

We are chilli mad in our house, it goes into everything savoury. I'm no expert but all I know is you wouldn't want to mix up a Jalapeno and a Scotch bonnet!

I too am not a chilli person, but Mr H loves them. He bought a chilli plant last year and ate every chilli it produced, so this year we planted from seed to see if we could pull it off. They are slow growing here. He has had several, but they are just all beginning to fruit. Birds eye, jalapeno and scotch bonnet we have growing. Pretty to look at but I don't like to eat them. He once snuck one under a pile of nachos I was eating. It was in my first bite, blew my mouth off and ruined my whole nacho experience. I was NOT happy, and make up my own from now on! he he!

Have a super day...............xxxxxxxxxxxx

I'm not a fan of the raw thing either but they look SO beautiful. I have discovered a great liking for chilli jam on water biscuits with cheese though, I can highly recommend it!
