We've been trying to get a little bit festive over here at the weekend - we're not that big on over kill.
The only thing I do, do though at this time of the year - in a big way - is Christmas carols. I love them and 'yes' they have been playing almost continuously since the 1st.....of December that is.

Anyhow - it tends to take me the whole of December - putting up a little at a time - until I feel I've hit the right balance within our home. And for me to get used to all the jingle, jangle!
I'm the same with the taking down as well. I just can't bring myself to rip it all apart in one go, left with a home that feels bare and empty.
I'm one of those really annoying people that takes it all down a little a bit at a time as well.

I guess the reason why I do this or 'why I started' to do this is because I feel Christmas seems to get earlier and earlier - starting at the beginning of December or even the end of November. If that is your way then that's fine - it's just not me because................❉
Being a traditionalist I have imprinted in my mind - grown up with the idea - that is should be the twelve days before Christmas and the twelve days after, but....................❉

I know deep down we all need a little cheering up at this time of the year and I can't bring myself to be the 'bah humbug' mother that sticks firm to this tradition of hers.
~ though the kids have already done their Christmas cards - I haven't.....yet. Maybe I'll just donate a goat instead this year ~

So from the first weekend in December I do a little here and a little there - just introducing a few things at a time - to help make our home look 'Merry and Bright' leaving only the tree for my traditional ways.

I think that makes it this weekend coming and then we will be definitely going to town with the decorations.

How about you - traditional.....or not?

WOW, that last photo is amazing, how on earth did you do that???
I'm with you, at the moment it is just front door wreath, candles, fairy lights and advent reindeer (don't ask!). Can't hold off for much longer though! Trouble is, I don't like a lot of clutter everywhere, can't do cards and bits of holly propped on every surface - so it is quite restrained-ish round here! Bxx
love the picture of the bubles at the begining of the post.
I have to say I wouldnt get much of a look in being traditional in our house. The first weekend of December all decorations go up. And come down usally just after New Year. Once Christmas is over I like a fresh clear start. I am adamant though that it at least has to be December! For all the festive lovlies.
And It is cluttered and mad my other half loves Christmas and all the decorating. I dont normally do hangy decorations from the ceiling but the girls had a lot of fun making paper chains the other day it would of seemed mean not to of put them up! lol.
I think probably as the years go on though things will change i am just enjoying what I have now. The best years i think.
Hope you have lots of fun slowly decorating your home.

I'm the same - a little at a time until I feel it's just right. Today I'm going to put some lights on the little outdoor tree on the back step. Tomorrow, maybe my glass bunting in the conservatory. Your bokeh pictures are fabulous! I will going nuts getting some like them too!
I'm a bad mummy and have said no to the tree going up until next weekend! Mostly due to space and after a while it starts to feel 'cluttered' and that there is stuff everywhere! But we have been buying and making a few things along the way so they are ready and waiting to go up!
Your pics are as usual just lovely, I do like your table cloth is it a Cath K one?
Take care

Same! I spent all of Sunday hand tying a garland to go over the Inglenook! Your postcards arrived and are so lovely - thankyou Nina,
love Sarah xXx
My eldest son's birthday is December 11th and the youngest January 5th. So we always decorate (even 25 years later!) on the 10th and take down on the 6th. It has worked perfectly for years and made decorating for parties when they were small very easy. (I just hope my 5 year old doesn't think it unfair, or we'll have Christmas decorations in June!)
I'm with you and Carols, I just love them, and have huge Christmassy playlists on the iPod so there's now no need to keep changing cassettes. Fantastic!
Hi Nina,
i am a little like you with 12 days either side of Christmas. we usually put up our tree the weekend before & take it down on twelth night.
I am starting to feel festive though and a little Christmas music is creeping into our days xx
i was making baubles this weekend as i am running a 'bauble making' workshop tonight, hope we get some mince pies!

We take the deorations down before 12th Night but I start putting them up gradually after 1st December. Love playing carols throughout festive period.
Traditional all the way. But this year I am succumbing to a bit earlier...not because of the children but it feels good. The tree will go up at the weekend but until then I have started adding a little bit of Christmas bling here and there!
Have put Christmas decorations up around the house but I take all the other non Christmas things away, put the lights up out side last night and will wait for the tree till this weekend. Stop by my blog for a give away.
Wonderful pictures. Love the first. The reflection is great.
Usually can't bear anything to go up until two days before Christmas, and it all (such as it is) comes down on New Year's day. This year I don't think we're doing much at all, what with my partner having to work Boxing Day - I'll just enjoy reading my new book with a beer. :)
(Ironically I have just been sent samples of a Christmas decorations collection I designed for Gisela Graham, but they won't be making an appearance this year!)
The tree will go up this weekend and that is early enough for me traditionally the 8th Dec is the day when all the country people would head into the towns and cities for shopping and we would all have a day off school and decorate our trees, we sent off letters to Santa yesterday really sweet!
Take care
Denise
We're always so disorganised unfortunately. I've been so busy filling my shop with goodies that I haven't had time to think about anything else but I must make a mental note to get on .. time marches on

Awww wishing I could have more self control.....part of the decorations are up, presents have started being wrapped, and the cards are written ( though, I do feel this is such a waste of time.....do we really care about cards???)......though, some things will be left for when the kiddies are off the week before............hooo hum......

Hoping to put the tree up this weekend :) Might sneak some other bits & bobs up during the week - however I need a housework blizt first :(
Decs usually come down before MrVV goes back to work - this year it will be the 2nd as I'm off into hospital on the 3rd!
The tree and decorations go up about two weeks before Christmas, then they come down about two days after Boxing Day.
I love Christmas and enjoy the three days in full, but once its over I like to be back to normal.
We'll be decorating this weekend - I do love Christmas but I can't bear putting tinsel up over dust and clutter so I have some tidying to do first. Plus we always have a real tree and I daren't bring that in too soon or there will be no needles left by Christmas!
Love the photo at the top of this post. A traditionalist here, 12 days (ish, depends where the weekend falls) before and after, just like you. Christmas trees in November make me cringe, in fact there's still not a stick of Christmas decor about the placetoday, though it's coming, I'm knitting mistletoe.
