July

A month to remember.

I can't believe that August is nearly upon us and July will soon be a long and distant memory.

It is with some melancholy that I'm saying goodbye to the month of July for so much has happened to us.

So much laughter and fun, rushing around, being as proud as punch of my brave little ones and many, many tears that I didn't think possible have been shed.

August for us means a respite period.

To catch our breaths, look back and remember, look forward with anticipation and not quite relish the need to get back to a routine. Envelop ourselves with the familiar.

So as something new - just for July - I thought I would do a little one thing differently (for a change) and piece together a couple of mosaics.

Not my usual style, naturally.

I've tried to remember as best as I can - with the help of blogger.....of course.

Though I'm sure there are some things I have forgotten as for a month it doesn't feel like a lot - considering the amount of pictures I normally post.

And then there are the things I would just like to keep personal.

Anyway. In honour of the month of July.

You gave to us so generously and took away as kindly as you could.

These are my memories.

Thank you for the journey - it was most interesting.

What are yours?

Mr Bumble Bee

Hello Mr Bumble Bee with your bottom sticking up in the air.

Sniffing around for pollen - little bits sticking to your legs.

Making you look much butcher then you really are as they gather and collect around your thighs.

Do bumble bee's have thighs?

Hello Mr Bumble, I'll let you go about your business - thank you for making me smile.

Country Life

If I lived in the country I would definitely have a little wooden gate with it's own painted name and all the window frames and doors would be decorated in the same shade of colour.

Wild things would grow among carefully chosen cottage plants and sweet peas and nasturtiums would ramble everywhere.

Roses would adorn the front all mingled with the scent of honeysuckle and jasmine.

My preferred form of transport would be.............well I'm sure you can guess and the bells from the church would wake us every Sunday morning.

Muddy wellies in the porch and the smell of wood smoke and home baking would greet you.

Quirky little houses dating back to gawd knows when with their pretty little gardens and smoke curling from the chimney pots.

'Oh yes' - if I lived in the country in a tiny little village like this I would have all that and much, much more, but for now I will dream, because dreaming is good.

And don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Country walk

Pull on your wellies and slip on your wax jacket - even this time of year you cannot escape the elements - and let me take you for a walk around some of our kentish countryside.

Not normally associated with the place where I live, but can you believe that within fifteen minutes drive you can be in some of the most beautiful countryside this county has to offer.

Cornfields filled with bright red poppies interspersed among swaying ears all laden with seeds.

Country lanes all twisting and winding, trees growing, curling, over and around forming tunnel like passages for vehicles to pass along.

Almost wild like with tiny animals scurrying from one side to another trying to reach safety as quickly as possible sometimes calling or screeching out to one another, but mostly in silence darting between the foliage.

Nature is left - mainly - to grow how she wishes, though some intervention is notable every now and again with the odd pot hole filled with muddy water or tractor marks cutting grooves along country paths.

The odd piece of farm equipment abandon whilst it's owner pops off for a spot of lunch or a crafty cup of tea.

Though nature always finds a way with chamomile springing up along these country paths with thistles, cow parsley and even now blackberries getting ready to ripen and a thousand buddliea seeds that have scattered and popped.

I love the countryside - I would live here if I could. But family commitments, school ties and of course the best of friends all keep me rooted to where I am........for the moment.

So for now I just visit whenever I can. To have the best of both worlds I guess, but one day I will have to choose.

Not for now though and not today - for now I shall just keep pulling my wellies on and dream of living in the countryside.......one day.

And......breath!

From last (ever) day at school, teacher presents and tears.

To Summer fairs, painted faces, year end productions, sing a longs and dancing piggy's...........

'phew'

I'm so glad it's Monday tomorrow and for six long weeks there will be a whole lot of nothing, sprinkled with many a late rise.........and to bed, with a dash of lazy, lazy days - either on the beach or at home - I'm not that fussed.

Some might say - easily pleased.

That's me!

Happy Summer holidays.

Seascape

This is Turner's view.

The space between the land and the sky. The shoreline and horizon. The sea.

It's difficult to describe the colours of this wide open space - especially on a slightly cloudy day when the sun is hung low in the sky.

I guess timing is the key.

From peachy pinks, subtle greens, vibrant blues all mingled with the smell of brine and clouds that are outlined from bursting sun rays - if you can time it right the view is spectacular and I so get it.

OK, so what if I said all this was Margate I was talking about - would you still be interested?

Put everything aside, every re-run of 'The Jolly Boys' Outing' you have ever seen.

If by chance you happen to be in Margate on a beautiful day - take the time to walk out along the sea wall and go have a look for yourself.

I can't guarantee you will see what I see, but I think I can safely say - you will not be disappointed.
