All in a weekend

Sorry - more allotment pictures........I know.

But this weekend (in our neck of the woods) it was far too lovely, far too perfect and far too warm to do anything else - apart from going to the beach with the rest of the crowd goers - then get dug in at the allotment.........literally.

I think we spent (on average) four hours each day - Saturday and Sunday - starting to (finally) plant some produce into all that lovely dug up soil that we've spent weeding and turning, over and over again - since October last year.

Off came the wellies and on went the less bulky but more heavy duty boots!

It felt pretty good to be honest.

And whilst the man of the plot got on with various chores like digging, raking, sifting and planting I got my fingers dirty in another form - 'painting' - whilst the girls laid out an old blanket to stretch out in the sun.

And with the generous supply of pads, pens and crayons I'd brought down with us my little nature girls started exploring and documenting - in their own little ways - the natureous (is that a real word) things that surround our little plot.

I think the most wonderous discovery was finding ladybirds inching their way out of hibernation - there were parts of the old shed I literally couldn't paint because of this.......all saved for another day - unfurling and stretching finding a nice quiet sunny spot to relax in and enjoy.

I felt like doing the same to be honest.

So what have we planted? Wellllllllll.............

The onions and garlic survived the snow - thank gawd - and I've planted at least two hundred bulbs for my cutting patch, but they'll be mainly for decorative - of course.

We've planted kale and rocket, early spuds and carrots.  Artichokes and raspberry canes and of course fruit cages have been erected.

The strawberry patch has been weeded but it's still looking a little ropey.  We'll have to see what becomes of it this Summer.

And if it's a 'no go' then the whole lot will need replanting with fresh strawberry plants as they are one of our main Summer crops - freshly made strawberry jam....yum - but I think it's a little too early to tell yet.

Fingers crossed though they do pull through.

It's all about the waiting.

Well that's all folks.  I hope you had a wonderful weekend too.

Loving the pictures they are warming me up today. Very chilly and grey after some warmth and sunshines at the weekend.

Sounds like you are really underway with your growing. We are sadly behind. I have started a few seeds off indoors but that is as far as I have got. Really cant wait.

Love the colour you have painted your shed goes really well with the red of the ladybirds!

Here is to more sunny days to get us inspired!

Got a bit of a shock there when the page popped up with a new header, very nice though. Seems like you have been busy busy. I had to give my allotment up due to the fact I have no time at all so will just have to live it through yours and some others :-)

Isn't it great to get your hands into some warm soil?! All the fruit and veg sound fab, but I'm very excited that so many people are beginning to create cut flower patches - I know you will love having jugfuls of your own, no chemical, no airmile, beauties all summer long. Luvverly! Come on Spring! xx

I was amazed to see some ladybirds as well this weekend! The weather was glorious for the time of yesr. Looks as if a lot of back breaking work has been carried out at the allotment - but it will be worth it to have all that fresh food!

It all sounds wonderful, and I'm envious. Having told you we were picking up the key to our allotment, we've hit a snag ... I'll save the details for a blog post but suffice to say that all bets are off for this summer :(

I do like the new header :D
