Home making

I'm not normally one to 'flash' my home in regular posts.  The bits that are viewed are normally us in the process of doing something like making, baking, the kids in the midst of creating a mess in general or prancing around giving me a jolly good old belly laugh that sends me grabbing for my camera to capture it all...if I catch them in time - speed is not one of my good points. These are the teeny tiny parts of our home that look half decent.

But with the wet weather washing over us these past couple of months I've spent an enormous amount of time indoors, at home.....decorating.

I was never one to sit idle - reading is my most lazy of laziness so I've been giving our shabby little home a bit of a face lift....just because.

Gone is the blue in the kitchen and we now have green.  The pantry has been (half) wallpapered - I'm hoping to finish it by the end of the month.  Grandma's old welsh blanket has been brought down from the loft - though I'm still not sure if it's a little too bright for our pastel'ish' home. And I've painted a patch on the pantry door with blackboard paint because frustration hit an all time high around Christmas time trying to remember each and every thing.

I'd like to give the whole house a repaint if I'm being totally honest, but I'm also half hoping the weather will change so I can get outside again because even though home making can be a satisfying thing it can also 'really' bore the pants off me too.

ps. do you like my new motto for this year...BE WONDERFUL!  I know I can be.

  4. Hello Nina! I'm reading the novel "The Snow Child" at present, which takes place in Alaska, and I often think about the everyday life of an Alaskan living through the l-o-n-g and dark winter months. I wonder if the spend their time doing up their homes? I bet you are getting satisfaction out of the work you are doing on your house. I also bet that once the sunny weather returns you will scamper out with your camera and without a backward glance.

There has been a lot of rain this past week here in Touraine too...

    Have a lovely weekend,

    Stephanie

  10. It is lovely to see little snippets of your home - I try to remember that word 'home' when I'm fed-up with dirty footprints or wishing I could cheer things up a little with some fresh paint (at the moment time for decorating doesn't seem to materialise but then I have to remind myself that Katie is still little). A home is a home for the things that happen within it. But it is a bonus to have it looking pretty too! Well done for your hard work, and make the most of the outdoors when the weather sorts itself out! Juliex

  18. I am rather loving the shade of green on your cabinet and am completely smitten with the chalkboard. There's something about greeting the New Year that has me cleaning and culling but quite quickly, I am over it.

  24. Lovely and time well spent. I think a splash of colour in an otherwise pastel palette is stunning, so go for it with the throw, and lovely memories of your grandmother too. I love to pick up bits and pieces I am really drawn to which absolutely don't go with anything else in my house and work out how to use them. It is interesting what works in the most unlikely places. Love the green too.
Like you I am longing to get outside, but I guess it'll be a while yet - just grab the odd day when we can.

  25. I love your painted blackboard door with your motto Nina, it's beautiful and perfect. I must say that our house has never looked so well painted on the inside due to the frustration of having to spend so many cold wet days indoors! I have my husband to thank for that I am pants at DIY :o)
Have a wonderful weekend being wonderful xox Penelope
